NON-SURGICAL NON-INVASIVE NON-PAINFUL EVIDANCE BASED
EFFECTIVE TECHNIQUE

The Concept

  • Chiropractic is the science and healing art of correcting and restoring joint mobility, thus reducing degenerative changes to joint surfaces, alleviating pain induced through nerve traction and compression. Achieved by hand through gentle specific spinal manipulations in the form of high velocity, low impact thrusts, freeing the nervous system and consequently the whole body to function at its optimum potential.

  • Chiropractors practice under the consensus that there is a significant interrelationship between the spine and the nervous system. When the biomechanics of the spine are not aligned, the nervous system potentially may be affected and lead to pain. For example, a displaced vertebral disc may cause some nerve root irritation which could lead to pain. The "hands on" approach utilizes manipulation techniques to realign the spinal column decreasing the effect on the nervous system. When the spinal column and nervous system are in balance with one another, disease prevention and musculoskeletal wellness are promoted.

Who is it for ?

  • Chiropractors care for patients of all ages, with a variety of health conditions. They are especially well known for treating back pain, neck pain and headaches... particularly with their highly skilled manipulations or chiropractic adjustments. They also care for patients with a wide range of injuries and disorders of the musculoskeletal system, involving the muscles, ligaments and joints. These painful conditions often involve or impact the nervous system, which can cause referred pain and dysfunction distant to the region of injury. The benefits of chiropractic care extend to general health issues, as well, since our body structure affects our overall function. Chiropractors also counsel patients on diet, nutrition, exercise, healthy habits, and occupational and lifestyle modification.

  • Chiropractors, like Dr. Habib, treat athletes who count on the function of their bodies to help them perform at peak levels. Studies have shown that athletes who receive regular chiropractic spinal adjustments react faster, execute fine movements with improved accuracy and precision, and have better co-ordination, all in all, amounting to an overall better athlete.

How Chiropractic works ?

1- Reducing the inflammatory process and nerve roots impingement (entrapment) responsible for pain production, relieving its compression thus allowing for a non impeded flow of nerve stimulation throughout the body and a better function of the musculoskeletal system.

2- Restoring spinal vertebral joints functionality and normal range of motion thus causing a beneficial redistribution of muscular forces, improving joint biomechanics thus reducing undue early degenerative changes (wear and tear) at articular surfaces.

3- Stimulation of wide diameter nerve fibers promoting central and peripheral nervous systems causing the remodeling of cerebral pain perception and reduction of the painful experience.

4- Stimulation of proprioception and central synaptoplasty (formation of new neurologic cerebral interconnections) thus improving skeletal functions and reducing the risk for musculoskeletal injuries particularly beneficial to highly conditioned athletes.

5- In disc herniation with or without nerve root compression:

  • Dropping intra-discal pressure

  • Widening of the spinal canal

  • Reducing pressure on the spinal nerves

  • Returning motion to the spinal joint

How Is A Chiropractic Adjustment Performed?

  • Chiropractic adjustment or manipulation is a manual procedure that utilizes the highly refined skills developed during the doctor of chiropractic’s intensive years of chiropractic education. The chiropractor typically uses his or her hands to manipulate the joints of the body, particularly the spine, in order to restore or enhance joint function. This often helps resolve joint inflammation and reduces the patient's pain. Chiropractic manipulation is a highly controlled procedure that rarely causes discomfort. The chiropractor adapts the procedure to meet the specific needs of each patient. Patients often note positive changes in their symptoms immediately following treatment.

Is Chiropractic Treatment Safe?

  • Chiropractic is widely recognized as one of the safest drug-free, non-invasive therapies available for the treatment of neuromusculoskeletal complaints. Although chiropractic has an excellent safety record, no health treatment is completely free of potential adverse effects. The risks associated with chiropractic, however, are very small. Many patients feel immediate relief following chiropractic treatment, but some may experience mild soreness or aching, just as they do after some forms of exercise. Current literature shows that minor discomfort or soreness following spinal manipulation typically fades within 24 hours.
